Course Description:

In this session, we will discuss different options, essentials and insights necessary for transitions in an endodontic practice. Whether you are just beginning your endodontic career, considering retirement or transitioning into another phase of your dental career, you will gain tools, ideas and insights to use along the way.    

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • Gain insight into the steps required to begin the transition journey in an endodontic practice, whether it is at the beginning, middle or end of his/her career.
  • Discuss the need for, the role of and the value of having the proper members on the transition team.
  • Discuss the factors involved in the process of working out a transition pathway that best supports their personal needs and the needs of their families, and fulfills the requirements for continued personal and financial success in the future.

Clara M. Spatafore, D.D.S., M.S.

Dr. Spatafore attended West Virginia University where she received her undergraduate degree, D.D.S., M.S. and Certificate in Endodontics. She was a general dentist in Pittsburgh, PA , after endodontic training she served in the US Navy. She practiced at Allegheny General Hospital for 16 years and maintained a private practice in Sewickley, PA. She is an associate professor and Chairman of the DOE at VCU School of Dentistry. As a member of the AAE she has held several leadership roles with the Board, including president in 2010-11. Dr. Spatafore is currently a director on the American Board of Endodontics. She is a Diplomate of the ABE, was a member of several AAE committees and serves on the JOE Scientific Review Board. Dr. Spatafore is a member of the ADA, the Virginia and Richmond Dental Associations, and other endodontic organizations. She and her husband, Philip Bartling have four children.
