5 (1 vote)

CE Hours: 0 CE hour

Like other complex procedures in medicine and dentistry, root canal treatment can be associated with mishaps, collectively termed procedural accidents. One such accident is perforation which can occur during access preparation, cleaning and shaping as well as post preparation. Etiologic factors involved in perforations, prevention, recognition and diagnosis as well as treatment of these accidents significantly affect prognosis. In this presentation, the lecturers will discuss the causes, preventive measures, diagnosis treatment modalities, operative procedures, repair materials and prognosis of various types of perforations that can occur during root canal treatment.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the causes, prevention, treatment and prognosis of pulp chamber perforation during access preparation.
  • Recognize the causes, prevention, treatment and prognosis of root perforation during cleaning and shaping.
  • Recognize the causes, prevention, treatment and prognosis of root perforation during post space preparation.
