Recorded On: 11/01/2017

CE Hours: 1.0

 Course Description:

Post-treatment or persistent pain, can be disruptive to a practitioner’s schedule and psyche. The ever-changing landscape of pharmaceuticals and regulation make it important for practitioners to keep abreast of options for the most appropriate management of pain. This session will bring endodontists up to date on options for managing acute and chronic pain from the perspectives of a pharmacist, neurologist, psychologist, facial pain practitioner, and DEA agent. Issues for discussion will be curbing the problem of prescription drug abuse, identifying common "red flags" regarding errant prescribing, and recognizing forgeries and recipient drug-seeking behavior, as well as details regarding the rescheduling of hydrocodone and much more.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • Describe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options for managing acute and chronic pain.
  • Discuss how endodontists can work with other professionals in the management of acute and chronic pain.
  • Describe the scope of the prescription drug abuse problem in the United States.
