PF-7 Clinical Application of CBCT: Impact on Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

5 (2 votes)

CE Hours: 1.5

Course Description:

Cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) can provide a nondestructive real-time transfer of anatomic and morphologic information via a reconstructed digital image and a manipulatable user-friendly clinical interface for all phases of endodontic treatment. The short acquisition time and a level of interpretive detail equivalent to that of in vitro tooth sectioning makes CBCT imaging the first and only method available for the accurate, undistorted, chair-side evaluation of teeth in all three spatial planes. Moreover, the recommended use of small field-of-view (FOV) acquisitions permits high resolution at comparatively small radiation dosage. This session will discuss the advantages of preoperative CBCT scanning and how this information can be used for more predictable nonsurgical root canal treatment, nonsurgical root canal retreatment and surgical root canal treatment.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • List specific advantages of preoperative CBCT scans for nonsurgical root canal treatment.
  • Describe the use of preoperative and perioperative CBCT scans for nonsurgical root canal retreatment.
  • Explain the importance of preoperative CBCT scans for surgical endodontics.
