Program Overview:

After a 10-minute ADEA Endodontic Section meeting, each panel member will have 10-12 minutes to address the following questions. 1) With a difference in educational backgrounds, how are we best able to assess a baseline competency level with international students? 2) How do cultural differences influence the relationship between instructor and student in an endodontic Residency? 3) Should the international student be evaluated differently from a student in a traditional American program? 4) How can advances in technology be used to improve communication among international endodontic educators? 5) Are the expectations of an international endodontic student different than those of a student from an American program? 6) Is the interaction between endodontists and other specialists different in other countries when compared to the United States? Presentations will be followed by a 20-minute Q&A.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  •  Discuss the relevance of cultural diversity in educating international students.
  •  Discuss the difficulties encountered in the selection process of international students. What are the possible criteria for standardization?
  •  Indicate recommendations to enable international students to achieve their expectations during residency.
