Course Description:

The components of endodontic therapy—diagnosis, treatment, and re-evaluation—can occasionally be enhanced and solidified with the addition of information gained from limited-field CBCT imaging. This session will review the 12 recommendations contained in the 2015 AAE-AAOMR joint position statement. Clinical cases will be utilized to highlight both strengths and limitations of these 3-D images in the practice of endodontics.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the critical role of imaging in the modern practice of endodontics.
  • Describe situations where information gathered via three-dimensional imaging may change our diagnosis, treatment procedures, or subsequent outcome assessments.
  • Relate the twelve recommendations from the position statement on CBCT use in endodontics to actual clinical cases and scenarios.

Kent A. Sabey, D.D.S.

Following eight years in an Arizona general dentistry practice, Dr. Sabey enjoyed a full career in the US Air Force, retiring in Jan 2011. While in the military, he attended two postgraduate dental training programs -- a 2-year AEGD and then an endodontics residency, achieving board certification for both areas. Publications include articles in both endodontic and general dentistry journals, as well as co-authoring a textbook chapter. His current position is as a full-time educator, and he serves as the Program Director for the LSU Advanced Education in Endodontics.
