Course Description:

Advanced 3D imaging, such as cone beam computer tomography (CBCT), is rapidly becoming a more common tool in dentistry, particularly in the endodontics. It is frequently employed in endodontics to assist in obtaining more definitive diagnosis, treatment plans and long-term case assessments. As endodontists, we are often confronted with perplexing diagnostic situations. Cases will present symptoms that may not be reproducible despite a comprehensive dental history, assorted provocative tests and traditional digital radiographic examination which may fail to definitively demonstrate more subtle osseous changes. In such cases, we frequently have no option but to advise the patient to return when they are symptomatic.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • Perform accurate diagnosis in complex and difficult to discern cases, employing limited field of view high definition CBCT.
  • Review and discuss difficult diagnostic situations that may be encountered in endodontic practice.
  • Recognize the value of applying CBCT to obtain an accurate diagnosis and its influence in treatment, case outcome as well as patient and clinician satisfaction.
