Course Description:

This session presents the most recent data on the dynamics of referrals to endodontists, using AAE research studies of general dentists from 2012 and 2009.    

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the key factors that general dentists consider prior to making an endodontic referral.
  • Name the specific groups of general dentists that are most likely to refer to an endodontic specialist, and their unique needs and preferences.
  • Describe specific actions endodontists can take to improve referral relationships and increase referrals.

James F. Wolcott D.D.S.

Dr. Wolcott received his D.D.S. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1992. He completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 1995 and pursued advanced training in endodontics at Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he received his Certificate in Endodontics in 1998. He spent 13 years as a partner at an endodontic practice in Colorado Springs before opening Endodontics of New Mexico with his wife, Dr. Susan L. Wolcott, in 2012. Dr. Wolcott's current professional affiliations include his position as clinical assistant professor at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry, and Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. An active member of the American Association of Endodontists, Dr. Wolcott serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Endodontics and currently represents District V on the AAE’s board of directors. Dr. Wolcott has authored numerous peer reviewed articles as well as textbook chapters and has taught at both the pre and post doctorate levels.
