Cloud Computing: The Future of Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Dental Informatics
Speaker: Richard D. Roblee, D.D.S., M.S.
This session will demonstrate the integration of time proven interdisciplinary methodologies with the concept of one centralized health record for each patient utilizing "cloud computing." This internet-based, HIPAA-compliant technology enables an interdisciplinary team to electronically access and update a patient's health record from anywhere at any time, and seamlessly communicate with the patient, other providers, laboratories and pharmacies. The result is a highly secure and cost effective approach to efficiently making the best treatment decisions and consistently providing the highest level of comprehensive care. Expanding this concept to a community or countrywide platform can also significantly reduce overall healthcare costs while providing a powerful vehicle for developing evidence-based treatment options.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the efficiency and effectiveness of virtual communication for an interdisciplinary team.
- Discuss HIPAA compliance issues and the EHR mandates associated with interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Discuss the potential for developing evidence-based treatment options by utilizing this technology.
Multidisciplinary Team Relationships
Speaker: Donald S. Clem, D.D.S.
Increasingly, patients require a team approach to health care. This presentation will explore how our current demographic will drive dental care and the complexities of decisions for effective solutions. The role of collaboration in treatment planning will be reviewed as well as how combining the expertise of individual clinicians can be managed efficiently. Finally, what is the role of the specialist of the future? It has been said that "blurring of the specialties" is occurring; or is "de-specialization" threatening the very nature of the dental specialties themselves?

The Role of TEAM in Reconstructive Esthetic Dentistry: A Defined Algorithm for Success
Speaker: James L. Gutmann, D.D.S
With the advent of new technologies, techniques and materials, the ability to replace missing teeth with the form, function and beauty of the natural dentition is now possible. Resin-bonded bridges, porcelain fused to metal and all ceramic restorations as well as implants can be offered as solutions to patients suffering from the loss of teeth in the "Esthetic Zones." This presentation will focus on a defined algorithm for the interdisciplinary team of the restorative dentist, periodontist and orthodontist to successfully reconstruct the soft tissue foundation for all of these restorative options in anterior tooth replacement. The diagnosis of deficiencies as well as the varied treatment options will be discussed in detail. This includes periodontal crown lengthening and esthetic periodontal plastic soft tissue grafting procedures, as well as prescription adjunctive orthodontic tooth movement to manipulate the soft tissue foundation prior or subsequent to the restorative options of implants, bridges or pontic replacement.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the risk factors in anterior implant therapy.
- Define the four most important diagnostic components leading to a successful treatment design for an esthetic restoration.
- Manage new digital and CAD/CAM technologies to optimize minimally invasive anterior implant therapy.
