Description: Endodontists’ ability to eliminate apical periodontitis depends on their clinical expertise and technical skill. Their ability to build a thriving private practice relies on their ability to build relationships with patients and fellow providers alike. Endodontics is a referral-based specialty. Understanding one’s referral base and developing good relationships with these providers will enhance practice satisfaction and ensure lasting success. Clinicians’ ability to understand and communicate their unique skillet is essential to building these relationships. Patient relationship building represents the other side of the same coin. Patients want to know that their practitioner cares more about them beyond their diagnosis. Additionally, patients need clinicians who can communicate effectively and efficiently, all while delivering competent care. This presentation will focus on those soft skills that aid in relationship building that are essential for endodontic success. In addition, this presentation will address the transition as a resident in an educational setting to a real-world clinical setting. Personal experiences and various strategies to transition to a well-respected healthcare provider in the community will be shared.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe and communicate your unique value as an endodontist to develop referrer relationships.
  • Discuss strategies to gain trust, communicate effectively and provide compassionate care to enhance the patient experience in one’s own clinical practice
  • Identify ways to find a suitable endodontic practice situation, where you can meet your expectations and achieve your life goals
