Revisiting Behavior Guidance for the Young Endodontic Patient
CE: 1.0
Description: With advancements in endodontic therapies and materials, younger patients may be seen in the endodontic office for vital pulp therapy and regenerative endodontic procedures. With changing parenting styles and patient expectations, endodontists may face challenges in managing these patients during treatment. The goal of this presentation will be to address how the parent/child relationship has changed and how to manage expectations for parents/caregivers during the course of endodontic care. Non-pharmacologic behavior guidance techniques will be reviewed as the majority of endodontists may not have access to sedation armamentarium. Strategies to easily and effectively implement these behavior guidance techniques will be addressed in order to alleviate the endodontist’s potential anxiety in managing pediatric patients.
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Evaluate critical first impressions in patient and parental behaviors which may result in behavior challenges during endodontic treatment
- Discuss how parenting styles have changed in recent years and how societal norms influence dental treatments
- Apply behavior guidance techniques within the context of endodontic therapy and be able to create a more positive interaction with pediatric patients
