S-13 Comfort and Efficiency in Endodontic Microsurgery
CE Hours: 1.25
Description: Endodontic Microsurgery is undoubtedly one of the most advanced and minimally invasive surgical procedures in Dentistry. While the focus has always been on how to improve the procedure and its technical execution, the clinician’s proper posture and general organization of the surgical suite is rarely spoken about. Furthermore, there is a significant lack of education regarding ergonomics in undergraduate and post-graduate dental programs, often leading to symptoms of muscular discomfort which are ignored. This can result in decreased production and may ultimately threaten the clinician’s career. This lecture will survey musculo-skeletal disorders and their risk factors in an endodontic practice. A series of recommendations and precautions for reducing work-related injury and illness will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the basics of ergonomics, posture, and safety in the surgical suite.
- List the recommendations designed to improve comfort while operating.
- Identify early symptoms of muscular discomfort, and how to ultimately prevent them.
