Description: Endodontic Microsurgery has been shown to be an effective technique for the treatment of teeth with persistent periapical pathology. With the introduction of the dental microscope in the early nineties new techniques and materials were developed. The use of these modern techniques has improved the ergonomics of the treatment. This presentation will focus on the ergonomics of modern Endodontic Microsurgery, with special emphasis on the set-up, the roles of the different members of the dental team and the use modern materials in different clinical scenarios.

Learning Objectives:  

  • Explain how ergonomics influence efficiency in Endodontic Microsurgery
  • Describe the techniques and materials developed after the introduction of the dental microscope in Endodontic Microsurgery and analyze their ergonomic impact
  • Describe the roles of the different members of the microsurgical team in an ergonomic set-up

Carlos Aznar Portoles, D.D.S., M.Sc.

Dr. Carlos Aznar Portoles received his BDS from the International University of Catalonia in Spain in 2004. In 2009, he completed an MSc program in endodontics at the same university. In 2014, he completed a postgraduate program in endodontics at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam in the Netherlands. (ACTA)

Carlos runs a private practice limited to endodontics and endodontic microsurgery in Haarlem, The Netherlands.

He is the author of several endodontic-related articles and lectures regularly at national and international meetings.
