Description: The clinical protocol of regenerative endodontic therapy (RET) remains a subject of ongoing discussion, particularly regarding the selection of the most appropriate scaffold. Pulp autotransplantation, utilizing autologous pulp tissue from a permanent tooth of the same patient, may offer significant advantages over conventional scaffolding materials. Executing a technique that minimizes the cold ischemia time of the donor pulp tissue, careful integration of the transplanted tissue within the root canal system, and presence of immature root apices may create favorable conditions for the physiological revascularization of the transplanted tissue. Dr. Hugo Plascencia earned his D.D.S. degree in Mexico in 2003. He completed his specialty in Endodontics in 2007 and received a Master of Science degree in 2011, both from the University Center of Health Sciences, University of Guadalajara (CUCS-UdG), Mexico. In 2024, he obtained his Ph.D. in Research and Teaching. Since 2009, Dr. Plascencia has served as an Associate Professor in the Postgraduate Endodontics Program at CUCS-UdG. He also maintains a private practice dedicated exclusively to Endodontics. Dr. Plascencia served as Prosecretary of the Mexican Board of Endodontics (2017–2020) and Secretary of the Mexican Association of Endodontics (2022–2024). He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as the International Endodontic Journal, Journal of Endodontics, Clinical Oral Investigations, among others. His research has primarily focused on “root canal anatomy and its variationsâ€, as well as on “the management of permanent teeth with non-vital pulps and open apicesâ€. He has served as a reviewer for leading journals on more than 60 occasions, including the Journal of Endodontics, European Endodontic Journal, and others. Additionally, he has lectured at over 50 professional conferences worldwide.
