Description: How do you decide what technology advancements and techniques to implement into your endodontic practice? As with any development, the body of evidence, technical skill and innovation continues to mature within the profession. With this development also comes questions regarding clinical efficacy and safety, protocols and optimization and evidence-based outcomes. This lecture will offer perspectives from both seasoned endodontists: Dr. Kirk Coury and Dr. Jim Smith (~70 years combined experience) as well as Newer Endodontists: Dr. Anthony Mo and Dr. Michael Adams (~8 years combined experience) as to what was important in their decision-making process, learning curves, and clinical results.

Kirk A. Coury D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Kirk A. Coury is a graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry, and attended the University of Texas, Houston where he received his Certificate in Endodontics and Master’s Degree in Dentistry in 1990. Dr. Coury is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists, the Foundation for Endodontics, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and is a Fellow of the American and International Colleges of Dentists, and is a founding partner in U.S. Endo Partners. Dr. Coury maintains a full-time practice in Amarillo, Texas since 1990. When not saving teeth and making patients’ lives better with endodontic treatment, he has a passion for chasing wild trout, cooking, and exploring fine wine, bourbon and tequila.

James A. Smith, DMD
Dr. Smith received his dental degree in 1980 from The University of Alabama School of Dentistry and completed his endodontic residency there in 1982.He has been in private endodontic practice for over 39 years and is a retired adjunct assistant professor with the Department of Endodontics at The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. Dr. Smith has co-authored an article that was published in the November 2014 Journal of Endodontics. His practice is located in Birmingham, Alabama.

Michael D. Adams, DDS, MDS
Dr. Adams is a graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical College of Dentistry, earning his DDS in 2017. After working for a year as a general dentist he completed his endodontic residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis in 2020 where he earned his specialist certificate in endodontics as well as a Master of Dental Science degree. Dr. Adams finds great satisfaction in helping patients save their natural teeth while utilizing the latest endodontic technology. He currently practices with Dr. James A. Smith Jr. at Advanced Endodontics in Birmingham, AL.

Anthony Mo, BSc DMD MSc
Dr. Mo grew up in Alberta where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry (1996). After volunteering in a church service mission in Australia for two years, he met his now wife and settled in Sydney down under. Following in his father's footsteps, he pursued a career in Dentistry and graduated with honours from renowned Sydney University (2006). Dr. Mo worked and ran a successful practice in the heart of the financial district in Sydney for 8 years until he decided to renew his Canadian roots and pursue his passion for Endodontics at UBC. Recently completing a Master of Craniofacial Science and Diploma in Endodontics and earning Fellowship with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Mo is passionate about education and advances in the field of dentistry. He actively engages in continuing education both as a teacher and a student in endodontics. His other interests include cosmetic and biomimetic dentistry as well as implant dentistry, in which he holds a certificate from UCLA (2010).
