SP-41 Values-Based “Soft Skills” for the Endodontic Practice

Course Description:

More than ever before, patients communicate with the digital world about their experiences with endodontic care. The internet and social media are replete with crowd-sourced reviews that most often reflect their experiences in the office related to the soft skills of the provider - those skills and qualities that make patients feel comfortable and cared for. These skills are often valued by patients just as much as, if not more than, the technical quality of the work provided by their provider.

This presentation presents a novel research project which quantifies positive and negative reviews of endodontic practices to investigate qualities providers can explore to both promote positive experiences as well as minimize negative ones. A virtual panel discussion with a unique group of successful private practice owners will follow to discuss these findings as they relate to enhancing the patient experience in their offices.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  • List the qualities patients value in their experiences in endodontic practice.
  • Describe the interpersonal communication and practice elements that make up the “soft skills” of endodontic practice.
  • Discuss strategies to gain trust, communicate effectively and provide compassionate care to enhance the patient experience in one’s own clinical practice.
