CE Hours: 1.0

Description: Vital pulp treatment has the potential to significantly extend the life of a tooth. However, preserving pulp vitality following exposures/caries remains as a real challenge where healing must compete with the infection. The balance between inflammation and regeneration is crucial in determining the overall pulp healing capacity. This is particularly true after applying capping materials directly onto the pulp in its inextensible environment. The presentation will demonstrate pulp anti-inflammatory potential through its capacity to kill cariogenic bacteria. It will exam the use of vital pulp treatment in day to day clinical practice. The presentation will discuss various materials available for use in this procedure. It will also demonstrate how capping materials affect the pulp inflammation and regeneration and the overall outcome of vital pulp therapy.

  • Discuss how pulp fibroblast can kill cariogenic bacteria and provide a local control of inflammation
  • Describe pulp response is modulated by pulp capping materials
  • Explain the concepts for selecting teeth for various treatment options and what outcomes can be expected
