We will discuss how to more seamlessly submit claims in order to be paid more promptly when possible.     Kenneth B. Wiltbank, D.M.D.

    Dr. Kenneth B. Wiltbank attended dental school at the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) and graduated in the class of 1998. After seven years working as a general dentist, he returned to school at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio, where he completed a Certificate in Endodontics (Class of 2007). He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Wiltbank is a member of and volunteers in the American Association of Endodontists, where he serves as the chair of the practice affairs committee and as the AAE representative to the American Dental Association’s Codes Maintenance Committee and to the American Association of Dental Consultants. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, the Oregon Dental Association and the Clatsop Country Dental Association. He is the past-president of the Oregon State Association of Endodontists and has served in other capacities in organized dentistry. As well as owning two endodontic practices and regularly seeing patients, Dr. Wiltbank serves as an adjunct associate professor at the OHSU School of Dentistry, department of endodontology. When he is not in the office, Dr. Wiltbank enjoys the outdoors, running, sports, reading and spending time with his wife, Krista Lucas, and their two children.

    Nancy DeZellar Walsh, DNP (Moderator)

    Dr. Nancy DeZellar Walsh has over 25 years of experience in health care administration, operations, and quality. Before starting her own consulting practice in 2002, Nancy served as the Senior Vice President for Care Improvement at Allina Health System in Minneapolis, MN. She has extensive experience with project management, including rapid cycle improvement work, a strong track record of results and a no-nonsense approach to improving care and service for patients and families. The bulk of Dr. Walsh’s portfolio has focused on creating an exceptional patient experience and culture change on a local and national level. She has facilitated improvement in hospitals, dental and medical clinics, homecare and hospice organizations and health plans. The work has ranged from rural and community based sites to major health systems and academic settings including dental and medical schools. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Augsburg College in Minneapolis and earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from the University of Minnesota.     Eric Weinstock, JD, DMD

    Eric Weinstock is a Board-certified Endodontist with a solo practice in Canton, Ma. In addition to conventional endodontic therapy, Dr. Weinstock performs non-surgical and surgical retreatment and apicoectomy therapies. In addition to private practice, Dr. Weinstock serves as the course director for the Ethics, Professionalism and Law in Dentistry class at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is past-president of the South Shore District Dental Society and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. Prior to his dental training, Dr. Weinstock earned a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, and occasionally serves as an expert witness on behalf of accused dentists in malpractice litigation. Outside of dentistry, Eric Weinstock is a multi-optioned, produced and award-winning screenwriter of feature films. In 2016, his family film Arlo The Burping Pig (Joey Lawrence, Drake Bell) was distributed by Lionsgate. This past year, Gravitas released his gritty fight action film, Blood Circus (starring Kevin Nash, Vincent Pastore and Tom Sizemore), about an illicit and brutal underground fight club. Lifetime Movie Channel recently premiered Eric's exciting thriller, A Dangerous Date (starring David Chokachi and Jillian Murray). Several other films are currently in the pipeline, but he is most excited about his contest-winning dark dramatic comedy, Perfect Smile, about a womanizing dentist on the run, which is only "slightly" autobiographical.

  • S-3 Optimized and Advanced Flap Designs in Endodontic Surgery

    Course Description: 

    Advanced endodontic surgery requires in addition to proper retrograde root canal treatment also perfect soft tissue management. During this lecture both innovative aspects of state-of-the-art flap-designs and completely new types of incisions for specific clinical situations will be presented and discussed. We will learn how to handle gingival recessions during endodontic surgery and how to incise when restored implants are in the immediate vicinity.

    Sufficient knowledge of the anatomy of the oral tissues will help to understand that the capacity of regeneration and healing is primarily dependent on the vascularization and metabolism of the pristine tissues. Based on anatomic studies and clinical experience a straight forward advice will be given to manage incisions and suturing sophisticatedly but with ease. 

    At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

    • Describe several new flap-designs in endodontic surgery.
    • Explain proper handling of the mucosal tissues and perfect suturing techniques are critical for healing and regeneration.
    • Integrate their skills in muco-gingival surgical procedures.

    Christof Pertl, D.MD, MD, PH.D.

    Dr Christof Pertl received his M.D. from the University of Graz, Austria in 1987 and his D.M.D. degree from the University of Vienna, Austria, in 1991. He received postgraduate training at Columbia University, Department of Endodontics, N.Y. and at the Department of Oral Surgery and Oral Radiology, School of Dental Medicine, Graz, Austria. There he served as full time faculty from 1993 until 2005. He spent almost one year at the Department of OMFS, Kings College, Guy’s Hospital, London, U.K. From 1993-2017 Dr Pertl was part of the adjunct faculty at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He joined Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston as a full time visiting associate professor from 1998-1999 and since then as part time faculty. Since 2005 he maintains a private practice in Graz and serves as a lecturer at the Schools of Dental Medicine of Graz and Vienna. Currently he is also a board member of the Austrian Societies of Oral Implantology and Endodontology.

    Samuel I. Kratchman, D.M.D.

    Dr. Samuel Kratchman Dr. Sam Kratchman was born and raised in New York. He received a B.S. in Biology and a D.M.D. both from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Sam then entered the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a certificate of endodontics, and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Endodontics and the Assistant Director of Graduate Endodontics, in charge of the microsurgical portion of the program. Dr. Kratchman has authored several articles and chapters on endodontics and intentional replantation for the Microsurgery in Endodontics textbook, and the Dental Clinics of North America. He also developed a patented instrument called the S Kondenser for the obturation of root canals. Both Main Line Today and Doctor of Dentistry magazines honored Dr. Kratchman as the cover story for their “Best of “ issues. Dr. Kratchman lectures on several topics of endodontics throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, South America, Canada and Asia. He also maintains two private practices, limited to endodontics, in Exton and West Chester Pennsylvania.

    Ya-Hsin Yu, D.D.S.

    Dr. Ya-Hsin Yu earned her dental degree from China Medical University, Taiwan. After practicing for a few years as a general dentist, she decided to purchase endodontic specialty training.
