Description: I truly believe that the future of core buildups of endodontically treated teeth lies in the meticulous application of resin adhesive technologies via the hands of endodontists. As endodontists, we face the fact that a certain percentage of the teeth that we treat have a sharp decrease in survival rate due to poor restorative technique following the endodontic treatment. While it is quite unlikely that any endodontic specialist would actually fabricate final restorations for their patients, it would be beneficial for the patient that the remaining tooth structure be completely restored with adhesive resins before the patient leaves our office. There is no better moment to perform the buildup on a case than directly after completing endodontic treatment. The safe period for the final restoration of the tooth would then be extended for weeks or even months. Such an approach would be beneficial to all the parties: the endodontist, the patient and the referring dentist. Current clinical protocol for resin adhesive technology, post removals and extensive retrospective data will be presented in this lecture.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the benefits of immediate endorestoration of endodontically treated tooth.
- Describe various clinical defects of non-vital teeth and its endorestorative solutions.
- Demonstrate the knowledge of secure endorestoration and its crucial aspects.

Description: It appears we are in the middle of an endodontic revolution of sorts. Today's endodontists are trying to preserve as much root dentin as possible while removing as much bacterial biofilm as possible. Enhanced irrigation, whether laser or multisonic, claims to disrupt and debride the smaller shapes we are creating with our files and the hidden spaces that those files never touch. Both technologies are expensive, require ongoing maintenance, and add steps to the clinical workflow. Proponents of both laser and multisonic procedures have strong opinions as to which technology is "better", but the jury is still very much out on the answer to that question. I have chosen to incorporate both technologies into my practice, and find myself preferring one or the other depending on the case type, the tooth, and even how my schedule is running at the time. In my personal experience, there are pros and cons to both technologies, and I will discuss these in detail during my presentation.
Learning Objectives:
- Breakdown the main differences in the mechanisms of action between laser and multisonic technology in the debridement and irrigation of root canal systems.
- Describe the advantages/pitfalls, opportunities/difficulties, and joys/frustrations that are associated with incorporating each technology into the everyday treatment of endodontically compromised teeth.
- Distinguish between which cases can be treated more efficiently with a laser assisted approach vs. a procedure involving multisonic energy and activation.

Description: The discovery of dental stem cells (DSCs) in the 2000s has led to the emergence of regenerative endodontics and promoted recent endeavor on vital pulp therapy. The knowledge on dental stem cells particularly dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and stem cells of apical papilla (SCAP) has helped the establishment of two categories of clinical approaches to regain the vitality of pulp. One is stem-cell based therapy that involves implanting exogenously processed stem cells into the root canal space, termed cell-based regenerative endodontic therapy (CB-RET). The other is the known revitalization or also termed revascularization, that does not involve the delivery of exogenously processed stem cells into the canals therefore is termed cell-free regenerative endodontic therapy (CF-RET). The various animal and human clinical studies have shown that both CB-RET or CF-RET increase root thickness and/or allow further root development, as well as eliminating endodontic pathosis with high clinical success rates.
Learning Objectives:
- List the types of oral stem cells that have been studied.
- Provide an overview of cell-based and cell-free therapy for regenerative endodontics.
- Relate the importance of dental pulp stem cells and stem cells of apical papilla to vital pulp therapy.

Description: With access to social media at our fingertips and people looking increasingly to the Internet in relation to all facets of life, the online review is a powerful driver of business. The dental field is no exception. Patients looking for a new dentist or a specialist go to Yelp, Google, and other Internet forums in a similar way that they do when figuring out a new restaurant to try. A negative online review thus has potential implications beyond the singular patient who wrote it. Deciding how to handle that negative online review is ripe with potential legal pitfalls and risks. This presentation describes those issues. In addition, with many dental practices having their own websites, it is important to understand the challenges imposed by copyright laws when preparing the content for those websites. This presentation provides an overview of how to avoid a copyright infringement claim.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the legal issues related to dealing with a negative online review.
- Identify various options for dealing with a negative online review.
- Describe the challenges imposed by copyright laws when creating the content for their website and other marketing material.

Description: ULTRASOUNDS REAL TIME IMAGING (USI) is and advanced complement in endodontic diagnostic techniques. Ultrasound real-time imaging, (echography ), widely used in most fields of medicine since its introduction in 1942, is based on the generation and reflection of ultrasound waves and on the different mechanical and acoustic properties of body tissues. USI does not use ionizing radiations, and thus it represents a safe exam. The most important features of USI are its safety and its ability to describe the content of the lesions within the maxillary bones, in terms of presence of solid tissue, different fluids and vascularity. The use of USI has been successfully applied to the endodontic field for the DETECTION and DESCRIPTION of apical periodontitis, for the DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS between CYSTIC and SOLID lesions of endodontic origin, and between endodontic lesions and non-endodontic lesions; and also for evaluating the short and long term outcome of orthograde and surgical endodontic treatment. An integrated system of CBCT and USI would provide the clinician with the tools for the complete assessment of apical periodontis.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the imaging technique called Ultrasound real-time examination, its main features and its biological safety.
- Describe the most important advantages of using Ultrasound real-time examination when applied to the visualization and description of lesions of apical periodontitis in the mandible and in the maxillary bone, their content and vascularization.
- Describe the advantages of using Ultrasound real-time examination, as a complement to 3D radiographic examination, to differentially diagnose bone lesions with fluids or solid content, high, low, or no vascularity, to trace sinus tracts.
